Connemara is a region of County Galway, on the Wild Atlantic Way, which derives from the Irish for Inlets to the sea.

The area is characterised by a rugged coastline to the south and west with many mountains and lakes to the North and a peat landscape running through its centre. Connemara is home to the largest Gaeltacht (Gaelic Speaking Population) in Ireland where an estimated 70% of the population speak Irish as their first language on a daily basis.

Connemara is famous not only for its majestic scenery and thriving Irish culture and heritage but also for the Connemara Pony, Galway Hooker sailing boats and Connemara marble to name but a few. An abundance of fresh seafood is available from the surrounding Atlantic Ocean with lobster, crab, scallops, mussels and mackerel amongst the specialities.

Connemara people are known worldwide for their hospitality and warm welcome. It is our aim to connect you with the local community whether it is a day spent with a local fisherman or an afternoon with an artist, a private music, singing and dancing session with Connemara musicians or tasting the bounty of food sourced locally with an Irish family in their home or in a local pub and restaurant.
